public directory

Hallo!
In Mozilla komt in Mail de term 'public directory' voor, en ik vroeg me 
af of iemand daar een goede vertaling voor weet. Letterlijk zou ik het 
vertalen als 'openbare map', maar dat vind ik niet bepaald duidelijk. 
Een tekst waar de term in voor komt:

Another way to obtain certificates is to look them up in a public 
directory, such as the "phonebook" directories maintained by many companies.
